Essie Sew Psyched |
I first started hankering for an army green polish after hearing about the one from H&M from my friends in Europe. Such a creative, chic colour, and the olive tone reminds me of living on the Mediterranean! Sadly,
I don't live in Europe anymore and the H&M stores here don't carry the full cosmetics line, so I had to wait for the nail polish makers here to come up with a similar shade.
The first one I saw was Essie Sew Psyched and at that point, I was so desperate that I snapped it up right away and...ugh.
It's a dull grey-green PEARL! I can't tell you how much I HATE pearl finishes on all cosmetics - eyeshadows, lipsticks, and yes, nail polishes. It looks so dated and gross, and so Not Now. Sadly, I didn't realize this one had a pearl finish because I bought it online. When I first noticed it in the bottle, I decided to give it a try anyway, because I believe in being optimistic (and, y'know, I paid already), but it looked just as bad on.
Actually, the colour reminds me of a pair of pants I absolutely hated - but pearlized. Ew.
If I'd only waited longer I could've gotten OPI's Uh Oh Roll Down the Window (hee!), which is much darker, a more flattering dark olive shade and a true creme. Or Zoya's Shawn. Or any number of other army greens that are on the market right now.
My consolation, however, came when I googled Essie's Sew Psyched to see if other people were hating it as much as I was (many were not) and I saw that it's sort of a dupe for Chanel's Khaki Vert - and we all know I love me some nail polish dupes. Khaki Vert is more yellow so it's not really a dupe, but it's very similar. This relief, however, lasted only about a day because, as much as I adore Chanel's nail polish colours and think they're total innovators with their shades, I don't love Khaki Vert either. I just don't like mixing grey with green. Grey-purples, however, I love. More on that another Thursday! ;)

Have you tried the nailpolish from Joe Fresh?
They have quite a variety of colours and it was pretty cheap the last time I checked haha, haven't actually tried it myself though xP
Hello, my dear!
So glad you're back in Canada. :D
No, I haven't tried any Joe Fresh polishes. I really want to but my local Joe Fresh place is always trashed - the samples are all gross and the only products left available are the colours that no one wants. :( If I do I'll definitely tell you all about it! :D
XOXOXO
